SOS Outreach International

A nonprofit building character in youth through outdoor adventure

Aside from teaching me the importance of giving back, SOS Outreach has also taught me leadership. I believe that one of the most effective ways to lead is through charismatic leadership. There's no doubt that you need to inject huge doses of enthusiasm into everything you do.

For instance, I used this type of leadership during the cross country season. Being captain of the team, I had the responsibility of injecting this dose of enthusiasm. On certain occassions, we had to run mile-repeats. Does this sound fun? Well, it sort of is if you are energetic about it. I fooled people into thinking it was fun with my positive energy and they actually believed me!

On another occassion, I used charismatic leadership during a cold ride day. My students were complaining but ,once again, I fooled them into thinking it wasn't cold. I achieved this by throwing enthusiasm at them.

Indeed, SOS has taught me very valuable lessons including leadership. I believe charismatic leadership is important because enthusiasm drives others forward. In the end, this is what you want because you can't make someone do something. You can only lead them into the path of how to do it.

Great example Valeria - charismatic leaders are able to encourage and motivate others to following what they believe in and do so in such an enthusiastic way.
