SOS Outreach International

A nonprofit building character in youth through outdoor adventure

For the past two months our staff has been revising the SOS curriculum. Everyone has played an important role in leaving their imprints. With the internet, it is easy to research training and educational materials so that we can deliver best practices. I wanted to charge ourselves to integrate youth development, education and mental health more consciously in our programming goals. With the advent of year round and multi-year programming we needed to enhance the mentors and direct service providers i.e. Regional Program Coordinators towards becoming better trainers, counselors and assessors in life changing experiences and education to inspire wisdom and compassion in youth.

Why? Because the activity of adventure sports cultivates the passion and experiential learning in the youth, but the Sherpas and SOS staff creates the guided discovery towards leadership and character development. Just like we attempt to create as many positive touch points from registration to graduation, we have been examining and creating positive opportunities for transformation and/or instilling ethical servant leadership.

In our Resource section of the site we have updated our Training Manual, Educational Guide, Student Handbook. We are completing University and Sherpa Lesson Plans and Pocket Guides. The regions have completed their Appendices covering logistics. Not in the Resource section is the Program Logic Model and Implementation of the Program Logic Model and various other program documents so as not to overload role models. Let me know if this is something that you would value.

Spread the Love.

Full Belly Fundraising with Mountain Area Taco Bells!

Starting May 26-June 1, if you buy a combo meal from one of the following Taco Bell locations in Colorado (Eagle, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Rifle), $1 will go to SOS Outreach. Last year Taco Bell raised over $3,000 through this effort for SOS programs and its hoping to double it this year. If you are near one of these Colorado locations over Memorial Day weekend, stop in, fill your belly and help some local kids get outdoors.See More
