McLaren- Thank you for starting this dialogue. I don't think many people would argue that gang involvement has many negative affects. Gang involvement tears families apart and can cause a lot of violence. Please explain your thoughts about gangs through your blog- I'm curious to hear what you think!

McLaren -

It's an interesting question. I studied gangs a bit in college, and one of the root issues with gangs is that in a lot of cases, gangs fill a void in someone's life that was left by their parents not being present, or the lack of a strong, positive social network. I think that in addition to trying to stop gangs, its very important to make sure that kids who are at risk of becoming involved in gangs need to be intervened with, and channeled in more positive activites.

I think gangs should be stopped because of kind what Michelle said they tear familys apart and this one guy at my school was just kicked out of school because he was smoking outside of school and he was kind of a "gangster".
