It's been a while people, sorry for the lack of communication with you all in the SOS InterWorld Wide Web but it's been busy on the national front (everything outside of Colorado and the great Northwest). So I'll make it as quick as possible we've got some big things happening...
Big news out of New York...SOS Outreach welcome
Windham Mountain, NY to the family of resort partners. Windham is hosting an LTR program for the first time this year for youth from the
Shred Love program out of Bayonne/Jersey City, NJ. We're so stoked to add Windham and be able to offer the SOS Outreach programming to more youth, and also partner with our friends in Jersey, Shred Love. Check out
Windham Mountain and
Shred Love on the interweb.
On the East Coast we've been growing, the programs in New Hampshire are winding up, Saugus HS is getting ready to start their program at
Nashoba Valley. The
Pat's Peak program with Higgins MS is a little while out, but the kids are getting excited.
Off to the left coast, California, our first LTR group of the season at
Sierra Summit is registering as we speak for their program that starts on 1/10/10. SOS Outreach and the
Boys and Girls' Club of Fresno County have overcome funding, recruiting and transportation barriers to ensure that these youth will have a great time at
Sierra Summit learning to snowboard and learning about the core values.
A little to the North, Lake Tahoe...We're starting to work with
CASA and
Sports Connection of South Lake Tahoe to recruit and register youth for their LTR program at
Sierra at Tahoe. SOS Outreach is excited to partner with
Sierra at Tahoe for another season to serve youth from the South Lake area. Speaking of South Lake Tahoe, we're very excited to be back at
Heavenly Resort this season after a hiatus last year. We're working with the
Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe and the
Mt. Tallac School to recruit youth for an LTR session at
Heavenly. If you're in the South Lake area and looking to get involved with SOS Outreach we have lots of opportunities to get on the hill at either Heavenly or Sierra at Tahoe, a big thanks to these two awesome resorts and their amazing staff.
In North Lake Tahoe, we're working with Sierra at Tahoe's sister resort,
Northstar at Tahoe to offer an LTR program to youth from
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County,
Boys and Girls' Club of North Lake Tahoe and
Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. If you're in the North Lake/Truckee area and looking to help out, give me a shout.
In the South West, we're excited to be working with Cochiti MS and Five Sandoval Pueblos in New Mexico again on getting youth in LTR programs at
Ski Santa Fe. We're also excited to be working with Taos Day School for another year on organizing an LTR program for youth at
Angel Fire Resort.
Off to the frozen tundra the cheese heads dwell...Wisconsin.
Boys and Girls' Club of La Crosse is recruiting youth for their LTR program at
Mt. La Crosse. We're excited to be able to partner with these two great organizations for another year, it's been a long relationship now. Stay warm up there guys.
Some prospects on the horizon, keep your fingers crossed or put in a good word for us as we work on expanding to more new mountains. Talks with
Mt. High in California are going well to offer an LTR program to youth from
After School All Stars in LA. We've been talking with
Snowbowl in Arizona to get an LTR program going for youth from the
Club 4 Twelve in Flagstaff, AZ. Up north in Idaho we've been talking with
Silver Mountain about partnering to host an LTR program for youth from
Fresh Tracks in Coeur d'Alene, ID. I've been working with some really great people at each of these resorts and organizations to get things going, we're just waiting on a few pieces of the puzzle to fall into place. Let's hope that we hear some good news to start the new year.
That's about it on the national front. Have a safe and happy holiday and wherever you are, think snow.
