America's Great Outdoor Initiative- We Need Youth to Come!

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC LISTENING SESSION ON THE PRESIDENT’S AMERICA’S GREAT OUTDOORS INITIATIVE

Denver-Metro Youth Session

When: Friday - July 16, 2010, 11 to 12:30 pm

Where: Denver Marriott West, 1717 Denver West Blvd, Golden, CO 80401

Please join senior representatives from the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), the White House

Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for public listening sessions and discussions in Colorado on conservation, recreation, and reconnecting people to the outdoors.

This past April, at the White House Conference on America’s Great Outdoors, President Obama signed a memorandum establishing the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to develop a conservation agenda worthy of the 21st century and to reconnect Americans with our great outdoors. The President understands that protecting and restoring the lands and waters that we love and reconnecting people to the outdoors must happen at the local level.

Therefore, President Obama directed the principal leaders of the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to travel across the country to listen and learn from people directly involved in finding grassroots solutions to conserve our lands, waterways, historical and cultural resources, and reconnect Americans to the outdoors. The

President indicated that the sessions should engage the full range of interested groups, including tribal leaders, farmers and ranchers, sportsmen, community park groups, foresters, youth groups, businesspeople, educators, State and local governments, recreation and conservation groups, and others.

These Colorado listening sessions offer an opportunity for us to engage in a conversation about the solutions you and your community have created to address the challenges and opportunities facing land and water conservation; for engaging people in outdoor activities (especially those in urban areas), including through recreation; and in restoring and conserving our vital natural and cultural resources.

Full Belly Fundraising with Mountain Area Taco Bells!

Starting May 26-June 1, if you buy a combo meal from one of the following Taco Bell locations in Colorado (Eagle, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Rifle), $1 will go to SOS Outreach. Last year Taco Bell raised over $3,000 through this effort for SOS programs and its hoping to double it this year. If you are near one of these Colorado locations over Memorial Day weekend, stop in, fill your belly and help some local kids get outdoors.See More
