A nonprofit building character in youth through outdoor adventure

Jr. Sherpas

When a participant graduates from the SOS University program, their next step is the Jr. Sherpa program.

The term "Sherpa" in the SOS program translates to "youth mentor." The Jr. Sherpa works as an assistant to the Sherpa, and they participate as mentors to first and second year University students. Jr. Sherpas support the development of SOS University program participants. When a youth reaches the Jr. Sherpa level they are engaged in their sixth year of SOS programming, and have mastered the SOS Outreach core value curriculum of Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom and Compassion.

A Jr. Sherpa’s tasks include: helping round up the troops, conducting the "circle of love" and making sure participants follow the rules. These tasks develop responsibility, leadership and community awareness through the SOS core value curriculum.

Full Belly Fundraising with Mountain Area Taco Bells!

Starting May 26-June 1, if you buy a combo meal from one of the following Taco Bell locations in Colorado (Eagle, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Rifle), $1 will go to SOS Outreach. Last year Taco Bell raised over $3,000 through this effort for SOS programs and its hoping to double it this year. If you are near one of these Colorado locations over Memorial Day weekend, stop in, fill your belly and help some local kids get outdoors.See More
