SOS Outreach International

A nonprofit building character in youth through outdoor adventure

FAQ

How old must a child be to participate in SOS Outreach?
It varies by program, but all our programs are geared toward youth participants between the ages of 8-18. Students younger or older than this range should contact SOS directly for additional information regarding program options.

How can I get my group or child involved in a summer or winter program with SOS Outreach?
SOS currently has programs in 11 states around the country as well as in New Zealand, with full-time offices in Seattle, WA; Denver, CO; Frisco, CO; Avon, CO; and Lake Tahoe, CA. Information about programs can be found under the program tab and registration buttons are located on the main page of the web site on the left hand side. For more information, contact us by email or phone 970.926.9292.

How can I donate my time or gear to SOS Outreach?
You can send or drop-off donations at any of our offices. Office locations can be found on the staff page. When we receive your donation we will mail you a donation receipt as well as a thank you. Gear donations should be new or slightly worn and in good condition to ensure the safety of our participants. To volunteer head to the Get Involved-Volunteer page of our website. There you will find plenty of opportunities and ways to sign-up.

How can a youth get involved in the University program?
Youth who complete and graduate from our Learn to Ride or Learn to Ski program are invited back the next year for the University program, if it is available in their area. Expect a letter of invitation in September or October.

I don't have an SOS Outreach program in my area, how can we get one started?
If you have a resort or facility in mind and would like to help start a SOS Outreach program in your area, please contact us.

My child doesn't have any winter sports or outdoor gear, can he/she still participate?
Absolutely. SOS Outreach provides all the soft and hard goods necessary for a child to participate, including jackets, pants, goggles, gloves and hats for winter programs, as well as everything for hiking and camping, including tents, hiking boots, and backpacks.

Is there any cost for students to participate?
Most, though not all, participants in our programs are responsible for a nominal fee for services. That fee covers a portion of our expenses, and SOS Outreach covers the remainder of the necessary expenses, with the cooperation of our corporate partners.
