SOS Outreach International

A nonprofit building character in youth through outdoor adventure

This week kicks off our summer programs here is Summit County during our Summer of Service!

Here is what is going on this Saturday June 6th and we need your help:

1. 8am- 1pm SOS is helping Friends of the Dillon Ranger District clean up on a trail. We will be working on the Acorn Creek Trail. This trail offers the hiker solitude as well as an excellent opportunity to view wildlife and magnificent views of the Gore Range.
What We Will Be Doing: Volunteers will perform trail maintenance including: trail closure and revegetation in braided areas, building and repairing water bars and check dams for erosion control efforts, and repairing the trail corridor. This effort will provide for a more natural and sustainable trail and better experience for guests.
Project Location:
Volunteers will meet at 8:00 AM at the Dillon Ranger Station located on Highway 9 in Silverthorne, north of I-
70. Acorn Creek Trail is located 10.5 miles north of I-70 on Highway 9. The worksite is on USDA-FS land in the White River National Forest.
Parking :Volunteers will carpool to the trailhead, from the Dillon Ranger Station, as parking is limited. To reach Acorn Creek Trailhead, travel 10.5 miles north on Highway 9, then turn right onto FDR 2400 and travel 0.4 miles to a fork in the road, turn right onto FDR 2402 (Rodeo Dr.) and
travel 0.6 miles to the trailhead.
Meals: Coffee and bagels will be served in the morning. Volunteers need to bring water and snacks for the day. Snacks and beverages will be served at the end of the workday “Trailgate” Party.
Project Schedule:
8:00 Meet at Dillon Ranger Station (Sign-In & ProjectOverview)
8:15 Carpool to Project Location
8:45 Safety Talk and Crew Break-Up
9:00 Work on Project
1:00 Wrap-up & Trail Gate Party
Please bring appropriate clothing as well as the following items:
• Work or hiking boots--no sandals
• Leather or heavy-duty work gloves
• Long pants, long sleeved shirt, other layers
• Day pack and water bottles

2. 2-7pm SOS is partnering up with the Main Street Station in Breckenridge for their summer concert series. SOS is going to provide volunteers at all 3 entrances to the concert to collect and sell tickets. In return we get a portion of the profits with a guarantee of $500.00 at the minimum! I need 12 volunteers for each show. Saturday is the first one and their will be three bands with the headliner being Hieroglyphics! (You also will get in for free to the concert.)
There will be 2 more concerts after this one that we will need help as well on July 10th and Aug 22nd.
For all concerts we will meet at 1:45pm behind the stage in the Main Street Station in Breck. From there I will assign jobs and what entrance you will be working at.

3. Garden Day- every Wed. from 11-2 in the pocket park next to the Frisco SOS office located at 110 3rd Ave, between Granite and Main Street Frisco. Bring tools, seeds, or just come and volunteer.

Please let me know ASAP if you can help out with either or both events this Saturday!!!

Full Belly Fundraising with Mountain Area Taco Bells!

Starting May 26-June 1, if you buy a combo meal from one of the following Taco Bell locations in Colorado (Eagle, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Rifle), $1 will go to SOS Outreach. Last year Taco Bell raised over $3,000 through this effort for SOS programs and its hoping to double it this year. If you are near one of these Colorado locations over Memorial Day weekend, stop in, fill your belly and help some local kids get outdoors.See More
