Thanks, Jon. David and I are keen to get the ball rolling down here later this month, introducing SOS to the Southern Hemisphere!

We had a fantastic volunteer training weekend at Cardrona on July 25-26. The South Island SOS team is now in place -- Ross Palmer, David Clegg, Adam Dooney, Eric Schusser and Roger Williams. Eric and Roger bring significant experience and credibility to our team. Eric has more than 30 years experience in adventure-based education, and Roger represents a local youth trust. Both are very excited about SOS and say the timing is perfect!

Volunteer training on the North Island was a big success last weekend, with members of Kokiri Marae and BGI staffer Casey James joining David to introduce the programme to the staff of Turoa ski field. Big thanks to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) for the lift passes. Some of the group had never been on skis before. In three weeks, 15 children from the Marae will all snowboard for the first time. Meanwhile our first Diversity weekend starts tomorrow with six boys and six girls from Alexandra. We're running the programme residentially and a dozen local kids will snowboard for the first time at Cardrona Alpine Resort. Blue skies in the forecast!

Our 2010 season got under way this month at Snow Park with a new team in place and a new group of youths from Mt. Aspiring College (High School) in Wanaka. Just as importantly, much work has taken place behind the scenes to establish SOS Outreach as charitable trust in New Zealand. Trustees are in place and the trust deed is nearly completed. Once these formalities are in place, SOS Outreach NZ will be in a position to seek funding to expand our programs on the North and South Islands.

SOS Outreach NZ is now officially registered as an incorporated trust and has also been granted charitable status in New Zealand. Thanks to all those who have made this possible, including trustees Robin Synnott, Richard Hemingway, Miles Davidson, Bernie Whelan and John Lyttle. Also special thanks to Sharon Oxley for spearheading the incorporation process.

The Trustees of SOS Outreach NZ have officially appointed Ross Palmer as Executive Director. The team in New Zealand is busy preparing for the 2011 season, getting MOUs in place with resorts on the North and South Islands.

Special thanks to Heidi McQuillan for stepping up to volunteer in Dunedin and Wanaka this season. Heidi's presence in Dunedin will provide a vital link to the community and to Sport Otago, who have granted SOS Outreach $7000 to work with local youth.  Thanks, Sport Otago!!

Two awesome days of volunteer training at Snow Park NZ last weekend. Special thanks to David Clegg for running the training, on- and off-snow, and the Volunteering Central for sourcing volunteers willing to support SOS Outreach.

Full Belly Fundraising with Mountain Area Taco Bells!

Starting May 26-June 1, if you buy a combo meal from one of the following Taco Bell locations in Colorado (Eagle, Frisco, Glenwood Springs, Rifle), $1 will go to SOS Outreach. Last year Taco Bell raised over $3,000 through this effort for SOS programs and its hoping to double it this year. If you are near one of these Colorado locations over Memorial Day weekend, stop in, fill your belly and help some local kids get outdoors.See More
