I attended the lecture on My mentee is..Different. This lecture was about the difference we will face with our mentees and strategies on how to overcome those differences. He used a Continuum of Cultural Competence. This consisted of first, Destructiveness= full out racism, descending from the first Incapacity= The lack of capacity to respond effectively to the needs, interest, and preferences of culturally divers groups, evening out from the second is Cultural Blindness= Is an expressed philosophy of viewing and treating all people the same, ascending from C.B.to Pre-Competence= A level of awareness regarding strengths and areas to respond effective to culturally divers people, Lastly ascending is Competence= A person who consistently demonstrates acceptance and respect for cultural differences. This show how we can strive to be culturally competent and how this will strengthen our ability to become good mentors. He gave us strategies on how to interact with mentees covering all aspects of the continuum. If any one is interested in anymore information feel free to e-mail me at collinfitz@gmail.com.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend,

Collin Fitzpatrick

That is the saddest looking snowman on the Sherpa profile. I feel bad for the poor thing.
